Wolfe Island Historical Society AGM

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of
THE WOLFE ISLANDHISTORICAL SOCIETY
will take place at the
UNITED CHURCH HALL
Victoria Street, Wolfe Island

on Wednesday evening, August 24, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.

Guest Speaker: David Murray

After the business portion of the meeting, we will be pleased to welcome back a former Wolfe Islander who will be our guest speaker, namely David Murray, son of the late Rev. Harold Murray who was Rector at Trinity Anglican Church in the 1960's.

David will talk about the Murray family's Island connections, and in particular, about Louisa Annie Murray, who began an illustrious writing career after arriving on Wolfe Island from Ireland as a young woman with her parents and siblings about 1844.

“She is among the genuine gold productions of great mother nature, and
will yet have (if only she can be made to covet it highly) the stamp of current
sterling stamped upon her by the judgement of mankind, if my opinion be
worth much.” … Rev. J. A. Allen

The business portion of the meeting meeting includes reports from the
Treasurer, (audited financial report for the year ended April 30, 2011) and Membership Chair. Proposed amendments to the existing By-Laws will then be voted upon, followed by the appointment of an auditor and nominating committee for next year, and the election of Board Members to serve for the upcoming year.

Light refreshments to follow.
